What is positional plagiocephaly
The Word plagiocephaly is derived from the union of two terms of Greek origin: 'plagios" (πλάγιος'), meaning 'oblique', and "chefale"(κεφαλή), meaning 'head'.
Thus, the literal meaning of plagiocephaly is "oblique head".
Together with brachycephaly, plagiocephaly represents one of the two causes of a more general condition known as flat head in the newborn o flat-head syndrome.
La plagiocephaly is a cranial abnormality typical of infants, characterised by a unilateral flattening of the occipito-parietal region of the cranial vault.
Remedies Positional Plagiocephaly: Why it is important to start now
Positional plagiocephaly is created in the first 2-4 months of life, a period in which the head is most mouldable and grows quickly.
The sooner you start to treat these issues correctly, the better.
The baby's head growing rapidly in the first months of life but then slows downas if that were not enough, the head is extremely mouldable in the first months of life but it gets harder and harder.
This means that the longer you waitthe longer the resolution time and the worse the improvements will be.
Remedies Plagiocephaly Positional
To better understand what the most effective remedies for the plagiocephaly positional, the parent must be aware of incorrect postures that provoked it.
Incorrect postures can be caused either by postural attitudes that parents have unknowingly put into practice both from a myogenic torticollis.
To remedy and correct positional plagiocephaly in the best possible way and in the shortest possible time must be avoided all misbehaviour by the parents (position in the cradle, in the arms, in the sling, pillows, position during supine and prone play, etc.), resolve any myogenic torticollis through osteopathic treatments and, above all, apply all correct postural recommendations to cure it.
The recommendations include basic precautions to be applied within 24 hours (e.g. how to use the sling to resolve plagiocephaly, how to decrease supine time, how to get the child used to turning his or her head correctly, how to position the cradle in case of plagiocephaly, etc.).

Hundreds of parents ask me every month up to what age can positional plagiocephaly be treated e the flat head of the newborn child.
To answer fully you need to know how much the head grows of the infant in the first year of life and the its degree of modelling.
The baby's head is born with a circumference of approximately 35 cm in the male and 34 cm in the female.
The head grows 6 cm of circumference in the first 3 months of life, a period when the head is very mouldable.
However, from 3 months from life onwards the little head becomes more and more bony (less mouldable) and grows ever more slowly.
To give you a concrete idea: 3 to 12 months the little head grows by only another 6 cm of circumference (the same growth as in the first three months of life).
Can I now answer the initial question 'up to what age can positional plagiocephaly and flat head of the newborn be treated'?
The answer is: positional plagiocephaly and flat head are effectively treated in the first 3 months of lifeduring which, depending on the severity of the plagiocephaly itself, it will take 2 to 5 months to solve it (approximately).
If the child already has 4-5 or even 6-7 months, the timelines necessary to cure positional plagiocephaly and flat head increase exponentially depending on the severity of the plagiocephaly and the age of the child.
In such cases it may take from 3/4 to 10/12 months (but also more).
