Does the plagiocephaly pillow really work?

Does the pillow for plagiocephaly really work?

Thousands of parents wonder whether the plagiocephaly pillow works and is useful (pillow with a hole).

The short answer is "unfortunately, no" and I will tell you more.

The plagiocephaly cushion, being concave e envelopingIt restricts the movement of the child's neck and increases the support surface of the head. These reasons mean that the pillow increases the risk of flatten the infant's head (as well as increasing the risk of choking and Syndrome of cot death of the newborn). 😱

Read carefully the message sent to me by a mum on Instagram...😥

Why doesn't the plagiocephaly pillow work?

In this article I explain the scientific reason for which the cushion plagiocephaly NOT working and how prevent o solve really the Positional plagiocephaly of the infant with the right postural recommendations.

If you want to prevent plagiocephaly you can also find my book on Amazon, 8 rules to prevent a flat head (it costs half as much as the pillow and is really effective).

The only con is that you have to invest 1 hour of your time to read it carefully. 😜🧠

How Many Children Develop Positional Plagiocephaly and Flatheadedness

La Flathead and Plagiocephaly position of the infant are so widespread that thousands of mothers buy a plagiocephaly pillow hoping to prevent it (with poor results and money spent unnecessarily).

These problems affect up to 48% of newborns in the first 2-4 months of life, a period when the child's head is very modelling e growing rapidly.

Le negative consequences affect the well-being of parents, their wallets (doctor's visits) and, above all, the health of their child.

How can you ensure optimal growth of your child's little head?

L' only true way to prevent (and treat) flat-headedness and positional plagiocephaly in newborns is to know what the incorrect postural attitudes for which it is created. Consequently, it is necessary to implement the correct postural recommendations (simple and effective) to prevent it from birth.

Positional dolichocephaly of the infant

To motivate in a way scientifically unimpeachable this statement, I will explain what they are flat head and positional plagiocephaly.

What are Flat Head and Positional Plagiocephaly

The term Flathead is vulgarly used to refer to all what, in medical jargon, are called positional cranial deformities.

positional brachycephaly

This term, which may seem difficult at first glance, simply means that the child's head deforms due to incorrect positions (hence the term positional) maintained for too long after birth. In fact, in this period the head grows quickly, but is very mouldable.

Why are they created

Le root causes why a child develops a flat head are:

  • Incorrect postural attitudes unknowingly practised by parentse.g. improper use of the bouncer, the couch, the baby seat, the cushionspositioning in the arms or cradle, etc.
bouncer and risk of plagiocephaly
  • Incorrect postural attitudes practised by the child (of which the parents are not aware): for example the presence of a myogenic torticollis of the baby (don't worry, I'll show you how to spot it immediately if your baby has it and how to solve it promptly)
An infant who always keeps his head turned to the same side and is therefore at risk of developing positional plagiocephaly (flattening of the head in its postero-lateral occipital region)

This explains why it is safe to say that a flat head is completely preventable. So, the only real way is to know the correct postural recommendations to put into practice from birth!

Does the plagiocephaly cushion work/help?

Let us reason together.

We have just understood how flat-headedness is created due to postural errors unknowingly put into practice by the parent (incorrect use of the carrycot, bouncer, couch, pillows, baby seat, etc.) or due to postural attitudes of the infant (e.g. torticollis).

8 RULES to prevent plagiocephaly in matteo silva's book

So, if a child uses the plagiocephaly pillow, but adopts incorrect postural attitudes, a flat head will still be created!

This explains why I receive dozens of such messages every month (the answer you see is due to the first automatic message).

Preventing a flat head is easy (if you know how)

Thanks to theexperience gained in the solve thousands of cases of plagiocephaly and flat head of the infant (see photo below)I learnt how to prevent them effectively from birth.
